Valentine's Weekend

Our Valentine's weekend started off with the banquet at church on Friday. It was a delicious meal (as usual) and fun entertainment. Craig and I had a great time. Amanda was a server for the banquet to raise money for her trip to Honduras. She and Craig are joining about 20 others from the church to go to Honduras in June to help build a pastoral training center. She is very excited about going and did a great job of serving our table.

Then our weekend got really exciting. Luke has had this bump on his nose since his surgery in December. Well this bump went from this on Thursday:

to a really badly swollen mess on Saturday. We were hoping to wait until Monday when our plastic surgeon was back in the country to have her see him (she had travelled to Haiti to help and then went with Operation Smiles to India). But it was bad so we wanted to be sure that waiting was the best idea. So we went to the immediate care here in Sandpoint. They wanted us to go into the ER here and have it opened up and cleaned out and antibiotics started. The whole cutting it open idea convinced us that maybe we should head to Spokane to Sacred Heart Childrens Hospital where they know children, and Dr Peterson could possibly see him. So we packed a bag and headed to Spokane.

It was the right choice. . . they were great there and took terrific care of Luke. Not that it wasn't hard on him and us but they were able to get him on IV antibiotics and lance the nose so that they could release the infection and let it drain. They also did some cultures which were inconclusive. By Monday morning his nose was back to normal size with just the scab from the lancing. He was released late Monday night and is now on some really strong oral antibiotics. Here is how his nose looked this morning:

We had some tremendous help on the home front. Kyle and Kendall took the kids to the movies while we were at the immediate care and Grammy took over while we went into Spokane. Sunday people were very concerned and prayerful for Luke and we had lot's of support. When we adopted Luke we knew it would involve our whole church family and once again they have proved it to be true. We feel blessed.
