Luke, Craig and I spent the night at the Shriners family center last night and headed over to the hospital bright and early this morning. Luke went in for surgery about 8am and was done by 8:30. Everything went as expected--they uncasted both legs to make measurements for a brace, made a small incision and cut the tendon, re-casted both legs and brought him to us. They skipped recovery altogether so that when he woke up he would be with us. We could hear him crying down the hall and went to meet him. He woke up just as he was getting on the elevator to come down to his room.
He was crying hard until he got a popcicle and something to drink and then he was good to go. We had to finish the casts with one more layer, get him to eat and make sure he pottied. We got to leave about 11:30ish.
He isn't experiencing any pain from this at all this afternoon. Glad for that. We have 3 weeks in these casts then both of them come off. The brace he was measured for today he will have to wear at night and nap time for a while.
I have been overwhelmed by the love of our church family: we have had meals, flowers, balloons, puzzles, prayers, cookies, calls, kid watching etc. It is beyond wonderful to have family to walk through the hard times with you.
