What a week we just had! Memorial day was beautiful and we got some great yard work done and had some BBQ. Thanks to our veterans and those who currently serve our country so that we can be free.
Tuesday night my Dad and Cindy got in from Missouri for a quick visit and we were going non-stop while they were here. Wednesday was a trip to the farm with the kindergarten and first grade class, lunch with Amanda, a little rest, baseball and ice cream.
Thursday Luke had an ENT appointment in Post Falls. He saw the audiologist who told us that his ear drums are not moving due to fluid in his middle ear and he is not hearing well because of that whole situation. Normal hearing is 20 and he is hearing at 45. He is scheduled for tubes in his ears to drain the fluid in two weeks. When we got home it was soccer practice and we had our small group for a Shavuot celebration--it is a Jewish celebration of the giving of the 10 commandments and the blessing of following the commandments. We celebrated that and the giving of the Holy Spirit with dinner, a rocket, and a quick devotional with all our families. It was a fun time!
Friday was science day at the school so we went and saw the 3rd and 4th grade owl pellet discovery and watched the 5th and 6th graders demonstrate their homemade musical instruments. The 7th and 8th graders did a great demonstration of a water balloon launcher, water bottle rockets and potato guns. Dinner at Second Avenue Pizza and off to Spokane to take Dad and Cindy to their hotel for their early flight home. It was great to have them here to experience life with the Wikoffs--we didn't slow down at all for them at all and kind of missed having some down time to just hang out.
Amanda went with me to Spokane and on the way home as the sun was setting we rolled down the windows and turned the CD way loud and sang "life gave me lemonade and I can't imagine why" It is a Chris Rice song that talks about how good his life is . . . I was thinking how true it is. Our time together will go in my memory as a favorite.
Today is the soccer bowl so we have 2 soccer games and various other smaller projects to tackle. I start back to work on Monday and am looking forward to it but a little apprehensive about how it will all work out. I am also disappointed to miss out on some fun end of the year things the kids are doing--Ben is biking to Dover Bay on Monday with his class and Amanda goes to Silverwood the next week. It is hard to miss out on the fun stuff!
